Blue Crab from the Mediterranean Sea

In 2014, Blue Crabs, by way of an accident, found a very hospitable environment in the Mediterranean waters of Sfax. It is a very suitable habitat for food and shelters along its coast, as the shallow water makes it easy for the crabs to swim and prey. The medium salty water temperature full of algae and estuaries are considered as the best habitat for early juveniles to grow and develop. Sea temperature of Sfax shore waters is about 61degrees fahrenheit, an almost perfect habitat for biodiversity. The shallow depth where fishermen fish blue crabs does not exceed 150 ft. Additionally, Mediterranean waters tend to be much fresher and saltier than in open ocean locations  especially by coastlines, this makes the best habitat for blue swimming crab.* These crabs are considered some of the best in the world.

The exports of the blue crab, in Tunisia, reached, in the first half of 2018, values never reached before. In fact, the quantities exported increased by 1102%, from 120.6 tons in the first 6 months of 2017 to 1450 tons in the same period this year.**
